The Big Brother 28 Time Capsule has officially come to an end, but we are still learning what could have happened if some of its unused powers had been activated. One of the biggest reveals involves the Mystery Competitor power, and it turns out production had a familiar face waiting in the wings: Big Brother 27 fan favorite Keanu Soto.
Julie Chen Moonves revealed that Keanu was the former Houseguest who would have returned had someone successfully landed on the Mystery Competitor reward during the BB28 Time Capsule twist. Speaking about the unused powers, Julie said she particularly wanted to see the Mystery Competitor activated so Keanu could return and put his competition skills to work.
What Was the BB28 Time Capsule Mystery Competitor?
The BB28 Time Capsule offered Houseguests a mixture of rewards, powers and punishments, including the Diamond Power of Veto, Coin of Destiny, Replay, Never-Not Pass and Mystery Competitor.

The Mystery Competitor would have allowed a mystery player to enter a competition alongside the Houseguests and compete to help the person who held the power. The concept was similar to what happened during BB27 when former winner Kaycee Clark helped Keanu in a competition.
Keanu therefore made plenty of sense for the role. He became known during BB27 as one of the season’s strongest competitors, meaning that whichever BB28 Houseguest received his help could potentially have gained a major advantage.
Unfortunately, that particular Time Capsule reward was never selected, meaning fans never got to see Keanu enter the house as the Mystery Competitor.
Keanu Still Found His Way Back to Big Brother 28
The funny part is that Keanu didn’t stay away from BB28 for long.
Although his planned appearance through the BB28 Time Capsule never happened, Keanu eventually returned as one of four former Houseguests involved in the huge Medieval Games twist surrounding Big Brother’s historic 1,000th episode.
Keanu appeared alongside Britney Haynes, Tiffany Mitchell and Cody Calafiore as Big Brother sent the remaining Houseguests back to the year 1000 for the latest chapter of this season’s time-travel theme.
That means Keanu was actually connected to two separate BB28 twists. He was originally waiting to return as the Mystery Competitor through the Time Capsule, only for that power never to be activated, before production found another way to bring him back for the Medieval Games.
It certainly makes you wonder what might have happened if the Mystery Competitor had been won. Which BB28 Houseguest would you have wanted to see team up with Keanu?
