Speculation surrounding Season 28 of Big Brother is already heating up, and many fans believe the upcoming season could include returning houseguests instead of an entirely new cast.
The new season premieres on July 9 and has already been promoted as the “biggest season yet.” While CBS may simply be referring to the extended 90-minute episodes and the celebration of the show’s 1,000th episode milestone, longtime viewers think there may be more to the story.
Fans quickly noticed that the official press release for Season 28 avoids using the phrase “all-new houseguests,” something the show has consistently highlighted in recent years. One fan on X pointed out that this is the first season since Season 22 not to specifically confirm an all-new cast in its announcement.

Instead, the release only teases “unexpected moments” and “a season packed with twists and turns,” leaving the door open for the possible return of familiar faces.

The rumors gained even more traction after the first teaser trailer dropped. Unlike previous promos that mainly focused on the prior season’s cast, this trailer featured houseguests from multiple recent seasons. Fans now suspect that former players from Seasons 23 through 27 could potentially return to compete.
Host Julie Chen Moonves also fueled speculation with a recent Instagram post asking fans which moments from past seasons they would like to see return in Season 28. That question immediately sparked debate online about whether another All-Star-style format could be on the way.
Not every fan is excited about the possibility, though. Many viewers expressed concerns about returning players entering the game with existing friendships and pre-game alliances, which could put new contestants at a disadvantage.
Some fans said they would prefer a half-veteran, half-newbie setup similar to past mixed seasons, while others argued that completely new casts create more unpredictable gameplay and better entertainment.
Others pointed out that veteran players often receive advantages or extra protection within the game, making it harder for newcomers to compete on equal footing. Several fans referenced past seasons where returning players benefited from twists, safety measures, or built-in connections.
Despite the mixed reactions, one thing is clear: anticipation for Season 28 is already growing fast. Whether CBS delivers a full All-Star cast, a mix of veterans and newcomers, or an entirely fresh lineup, fans are preparing for another dramatic summer inside the Big Brother house.
