Big Brother 28 Week 9 Review: Barrett Takes His Shot as the Icons Fight for Survival

Week 9 may go down as the moment the balance of power finally changed inside the Big Brother 28 house. After winning his first Head of Household, Barrett decided against playing it safe and nominated Angela, Dee and Rick Devens together, putting all three remaining Icons in danger. With eight houseguests left, the move guaranteed that an Icon would leave the house this week.

Barrett Goes All In

Barrett knew the move could damage his own game, but he decided that breaking away from the Icons mattered more than taking the safest path. He also effectively ended the Crossovers alliance and accepted that whichever Icons survived the week could target him next.

The Icons immediately pushed back. Dee argued that Barrett struck too early and claimed that nominating all three actually gave them a reason to stay united. Angela and Devens also made it clear that Barrett had moved near the top of their target lists.

Yash Wins the Veto

The Icons received another blow when Yash won BB Comics, finishing ahead of Devens and Dee. Devens tried to convince Yash to use the Veto, but Yash ultimately kept it and left all three nominees on the block.

At the same time, Barrett, Melody, Drew, Taylor and Yash agreed to a temporary ceasefire aimed at removing the Icons. However, that group already has serious trust problems. Drew does not trust Yash, and Yash appears to view Barrett, Melody and Taylor as a tighter group than the supposed Final Five.

Drew Starts Drifting From His Own Side

Drew became one of the most interesting players of the week. He grew frustrated with Barrett, questioned where he stood among the Newbies and even helped Dee think through her campaign. He has also made it clear that his previous relationships with the Icons still matter to him.

That behavior has created tension with Melody, who questioned why Drew appeared reluctant to confront the Icons after the Veto meeting. Dee, meanwhile, remains suspicious of Drew and believes some of his conversations amount to damage control.

Dee and Devens Fight for a Path Forward

Dee has spent much of the week building a simple pitch: keep her, and she will target Barrett. She has taken that message to both Yash and Taylor and says her old loyalties no longer control her game. Yash even discussed potentially working with Dee if she survives.

Devens has taken a different approach. He told Yash that his reputation as both a threat and a polarizing player could actually make him useful to keep around. He also warned that Angela may become increasingly difficult to evict because other players could always view whoever sits beside her as the bigger target.

The Block Buster Will Decide the Final Matchup

Angela, Dee and Devens now enter the BB Block Buster knowing that the winner will earn safety and force the other two to face the eviction vote. If Angela wins, Dee and Devens would face each other in the matchup Barrett originally hoped to create. If Dee or Devens wins, Angela would face the other remaining Icon.

Barrett accomplished his immediate goal by forcing the Icons to lose one of their own. But Week 9 also created new enemies, weakened trust among the Newbies and opened the door for several new deals.

Barrett may have broken the Icons’ control of the house — but the fallout from his HOH could determine who controls Big Brother 28 next.
