Just hours before the premiere of Big Brother 28, one of the season’s rumored contestants, Levi Banks, surprised fans by revealing why he never entered the famous house.
Levi, whose name appeared on early leaked cast lists but was absent from CBS’ official lineup, shared an Instagram video explaining that leaving the competition was entirely his own decision. According to him, he had completed the casting process and was fully prepared to move into the house. However, as premiere day approached, he realized the experience was no longer the right fit for him personally.

Calling it “the hardest decision” of his life, Levi said stepping away wasn’t easy. He emphasized that he remains on good terms with CBS and the Big Brother production team, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and describing the experience as life-changing despite never officially competing.

Now back home in North Carolina, Levi said he’ll be watching Season 28 from the comfort of his couch instead of inside the Big Brother house. He thanked fans for their support and even gave a shout-out to Yash Patel, who has been widely reported as the alternate houseguest who replaced him before the season began. CBS has confirmed that Levi voluntarily withdrew but has not officially identified his replacement.
Levi’s explanation comes after days of speculation online about why he disappeared from the cast shortly before the premiere. While Levi maintains the decision was his own, other media reports have suggested there may have been behind-the-scenes issues surrounding his departure. Neither Levi nor CBS has publicly confirmed those reports.
Season 28 premiered with a 90-minute episode featuring a new group of houseguests, surprise twists, and the promise of one of the biggest seasons in the show’s history. Despite missing out on the game, Levi says he’ll be cheering on the cast as a fan throughout the summer.
