Cory Wurtenberger became the 10th houseguest to exit the Big Brother 25 house (and second to join the jury) when he was evicted by a vote of 5-0 on Thursday night over his showmance girlfriend America Lopez. Head of Household Jag Bains initially targeted Blue Kim this week, putting her on the block next to Felicia Cannon. But after Blue purred her way to one of this week’s Power of Veto medals, Jag had to pivot and put Cormerica in his crosshairs.
“It was the right move,” Cory told host Julie Chen Moonves during his exit interview. “If I win HOH this coming week I’m putting Matt and Jag up, so no hard feelings when it comes to that. The truth is, after being called out like seven speeches in a row, I feel like I’m in danger until that Veto meeting is done and noms are locked. So I was very uneasy this week, but obviously, I didn’t see the double backdoor coming. That was a bit much.”
When Julie asked why Cory couldn’t use his power of persuasion to get out of this eviction he responded, “At the end of the day there’s just not enough houseguests left. When I’m campaigning for votes Blue is off the table, she’s been targeting me forever. Matt was part of the backdooring me plan. Felicia is not a fan of me, God knows why. The votes just weren’t there. There’s more I could have done, it just probably would have entailed me getting America to feel super guilty and throw in the towel. That feels like crossing a line. I’m not going to do that.”
Does he blame America for throwing Jag and Matt under the bus to Blue? “I knew about those conversations happening after they happened,” he admitted. “I could have been more proactive in trying to fix that problem. The reality is, I’m sure Jag was looking for a reason to put up me and America. This might have been the reason. This is not America’s fault, I’ve been a target for three, four weeks in a row. It was always going to happen, this is just how it happened.”
When asked if his showmance helped or hurt his game he acknowledged, “Somewhere in the middle, probably. I don’t think it hurt too much. At the end of the day, me and America are a pair in the same way Jared and Blue were, in the same way Jag and Matt are. It didn’t work out because me and America can’t win competitions, but maybe she’s got a couple left in her. I don’t know.” He closed out the interview saying, “I cannot wait to spend more time with America. She’s amazing and I just can’t wait for all this to be over.”
