Big Brother 29: Producers Call Season 28’s Icons Twist A Success, But Will It Return?

Big Brother 29 will premiere on CBS in summer 2027, and fans are already wondering whether the upcoming season will feature returning contestants from Big Brother, Survivor, or other reality shows.

Following Rick Devens’ victory on Big Brother 28, speculation has grown about whether producers will continue inviting established reality TV personalities into the house.

Season 28 featured three returning reality stars: Survivor veterans Rick Devens and Dee Valladares, alongside former Big Brother houseguest Angela Murray. The casting decision attracted attention and helped boost viewership.

Now, executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan have addressed the possibility of repeating that approach next summer.

Big Brother Producers Discuss Returning Icons For Season 29

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Grodner acknowledged that introducing reality TV veterans into Season 28 proved successful.

“The truth is, it’s been a success,” she said.

“It’s been really, really fun to watch. It certainly helped jump-start the conversation of the summer to have it. So it’s been successful,” she added.

The strategy follows previous seasons that welcomed familiar faces, including Big Brother 13 winner Rachel Reilly in Season 27 and Survivor legend Cirie Fields in Season 25.

However, when asked whether producers would continue the Icons concept in Season 29, Grodner remained uncertain.

“Does it mean that it’s gonna happen every time?” she said. “I don’t know. I think it just depends on the creative of that season. But there’s no doubt that it’s been a positive.”

Her comments leave the door open for another crossover without confirming any plans.

When Will Producers Make Decisions About Big Brother 29?

Fellow executive producer Rich Meehan emphasized that the show needs to remain unpredictable rather than follow the same casting formula every summer.

He explained that producers typically begin developing the next season’s creative direction in February.

“When we start usually developing the creative in February is when we usually start diving in for the summertime,” Meehan told Entertainment Weekly.

During that process, the team will consider whether bringing back one or more familiar contestants makes sense for the season.

Could More Survivor Players Join Big Brother 29?

Rick Devens’ historic victory has increased interest in another Survivor crossover.

He became the first former Survivor contestant to win Big Brother, while Dee Valladares also delivered memorable gameplay during Season 28.

However, their participation sparked debate, with some Big Brother veterans opposing the idea of a Survivor player winning the competition.

Despite the criticism, producers remain pleased with the results.

For now, CBS has confirmed Big Brother 29 for summer 2027, but the network has not announced its cast or whether returning players will participate.

Fans will have to see whether producers introduce an entirely new group of houseguests or bring more familiar faces into the competition.

Would you prefer an all-new cast, returning Big Brother favorites, or another Survivor crossover for Season 29?
