Week 2 of Big Brother 28 has been anything but chaos, and Head of Household Rick Devens has delivered on his promise to shake up the game. After a dramatic nomination ceremony and an eventful Power of Veto competition, all eyes are now on Veto Ceremony to see whether Devens follows through with his backdoor plan.
Devens initially nominated Lyric, Jason, and Melody, but his true target has always been Rome. During the nomination ceremony, Rome unintentionally revealed that Lyric and Jason were the two players he most wanted to protect, exposing his priorities and making it obvious to the rest of the house that he was closely aligned with them. That only strengthened Devens’ desire to target him.

The Veto draw worked out perfectly for the HoH. Alongside the three nominees, Angela and Barrett were selected to compete, giving Devens multiple paths to execute his strategy. Whether one of the nominees won or one of his allies claimed the Veto, Rome could still end up on the block. In the end, Devens won the Golden Power of Veto himself, putting the decision entirely in his own hands.
Following the competition, several replacement scenarios were discussed. One early idea was to remove Lyric from the block and nominate Rome in her place. However, Devens’ allies quickly warned him that taking down one of Rome’s closest allies could weaken their chances of sending Rome home.
Using the Veto on Jason was never seriously considered, as Devens wants Jason and Rome to remain potential eviction targets. The most logical move appeared to be saving Melody, leaving Jason and Lyric on the block before naming Rome as the replacement nominee. That scenario would force Rome to compete in Thursday’s BB Blockbuster against two of his closest allies.
However, Devens’ plans took another surprising turn overnight. He began leaning back toward removing Lyric from the block instead, replacing her with Rome and leaving Melody and Jason as the other nominees.
The strategy has left many fans questioning the decision. While Devens hopes saving Lyric could earn her trust, critics argue it makes little sense if the plan is still to evict Rome, her closest ally and showmance partner. Whether Devens sticks with this approach or changes course again will be revealed at Monday’s Veto Ceremony.
