LaTrice “Lala” Verrett’s Big Brother 28 journey has come to an end. After surviving several dangerous weeks and building one of the stronger competition résumés among this season’s new players, Lala was evicted Thursday night by a 4-2 vote, making her the first member of the Big Brother 28 jury.
Her eviction came after Rick Devens won the BB Blockbuster and removed himself from danger, leaving Lala sitting beside her close ally Taylor Brown for the final vote.
The result also meant that what had looked like an opportunity to finally take out one of the season’s returning reality TV veterans quickly turned into another eviction for a newbie.
Devens Was in Serious Trouble
The week began with Drew Campbell in power after winning Head of Household. Drew nominated Lala, Taylor and Yash Patel, but Yash complicated the plan by winning the Power of Veto and taking himself off the block.

Drew then nominated Rick Devens as the replacement — a particularly risky position for Devens considering that he had volunteered to go up.
What Devens did not fully realize was just how willing the rest of the house had become to send him home. Barrett Pfeiffer had been preparing to turn against him, while Yash, Melody Morris and others saw the opportunity to weaken the returning players. Even Devens’ fellow veterans Dee Valladares and Angela Murray had discussed the possibility of cutting him if he remained vulnerable.
In other words, Devens had one clear way out: win the BB Blockbuster.
And that is exactly what he did.
Lala, Taylor and Devens competed in the live competition, which required them to retrieve balls and maneuver them into a raised target. Taylor came close, but Devens finished first, automatically removing himself from the block and securing his place in the Final 8.
His victory completely changed the eviction.
Instead of the house deciding whether it was finally time to take out Devens, the choice came down to Lala or Taylor.
Lala Is Evicted Over Taylor
With only six votes available, Lala needed four votes to stay or at least a 3-3 tie that would have forced Drew to make the final decision.
She did not get them.
Dee, Barrett, Yash and Devens voted to evict Lala, while Angela and Melody voted to evict Taylor.
That gave Lala a 4-2 eviction, officially ending her run in the house.
The vote was notable because the house had spent much of the day debating whether Taylor might actually be the better person to remove. Yash had pushed the idea of keeping Lala, while Drew continued to view Lala as the more dangerous player because of her ability to win competitions. Ultimately, enough votes landed against her to send her to jury.
Lala Leaves With an Impressive Competition Résumé
Lala may not have reached the end, but she certainly did not leave the game without making an impact.
Earlier in the season, she delivered one of her biggest moments by winning the iconic Wall Competition and becoming Head of Household. During that reign, she nominated Barrett, Haley Thogmartin and Chuk Anyanwu, with Chuk eventually becoming the houseguest evicted that week.
She also won the Power of Veto during the previous week and used it to take herself off the block, demonstrating once again that she could save herself when her game was in danger.
Those wins ultimately became part of the argument for sending her home. Sitting next to Taylor, who was generally viewed as less threatening in competitions, Lala presented the more obvious résumé for the other houseguests to worry about.
In her interview after the eviction, Lala reflected positively on what she had accomplished in the house and emphasized that she had been able to hold her own competitively. She was noticeably less pleased with Barrett, however, after he became one of the four people who voted to send her out.
Lala Becomes the First Big Brother 28 Juror
There is at least one major consolation for Lala: her game still matters.
Unlike Haley, whose elimination in the medieval twist made her the final pre-jury casualty, Lala becomes Juror No. 1 and will eventually help decide who wins Big Brother 28 and the $750,000 grand prize.
Her eviction leaves Angela Murray, Barrett Pfeiffer, Dee Valladares, Drew Campbell, Melody Morris, Rick Devens, Taylor Brown and Yash Patel as the Final 8.
And while Devens survived the night, the biggest story coming out of the eviction may be just how close he came to becoming the first juror himself.
The returning players are all still in the game, but the events leading up to Thursday’s vote showed that their grip on the house is no longer secure. Barrett has demonstrated that he is willing to turn on them, the newer players are increasingly discussing taking their shot, and even the veterans have started questioning one another.
Lala is gone, but the battle that nearly took out Devens is far from over.
For now, LaTrice “Lala” Verrett heads to the jury house — with a vote that could become very important on finale night.
