‘Big Brother’ winner pleads for help as her son battles illness

Big Brother season 4 winner Jun Song is no stranger to hardships in her life. But the former reality TV star has recently faced a big one, as she attempts to raise money after her son Noah’s lengthy stay in the hospital due to a case of bacterial meningitis.

“October and November 2023 have been what nightmares are made of, literally, for me and Noah,” Song writes in the GoFundMe fundraiser she created. Titled “The worst nightmare of my life,” she goes on to talk about how her son fell ill with what they thought was the flu. But it turned out to instead be mycoplasma pneumonia that evolved into meningitis.

“This is stuff you hear about happening to someone else, or seeing on some television program in the comfort of your own living room,” she goes on to say. “It’s not something I ever expected, and seeing my Noah lose consciousness and lay there in the children’s ICU was some of the slowest hours of my life I ever lived through. Not knowing when he’d wake up, or if he’d wake up at all, and not knowing if he’d wake up with brain damage. I told myself in my head, to prepare for it all. But in my heart, there was only dull dreadful pain.”

Noah did, thankfully, recover, though it took a full 11 days in the children’s ICU to get him back to a suitable form of health. Unfortunately, this has left a sizable hole in Song’s pocket. She states that she must now pay the costs for those 11 days of only a 20% co-pay for what’s not covered by insurance. There’s also the costs that are sure to come after Noah leaves the hospital, as he begins the long road to a full recovery.

“I knew this single mom life wouldn’t be easy, but I certainly didn’t see this avalanche of hardship coming our way. I don’t think anyone ever does,” she writes. “So, I can only ask humbly for any and all help from anyone I’ve touched in some way through the years, to help me. I’m not good at asking for help. It’s usually me on the other side, helping everyone else. But here I am. Hoping to be on the receiving end.”

Song appeared on Big Brother 4 back in 2003. She was a participant in the “X Factor” twist, where she lived and played alongside her ex-boyfriend. After 82 days, she won the $500,000 grand prize near-unanimously. Since her victory, she moved to Belgium with Noah, and opened up a Korean restaurant.
