Big Brother 28 delivered one of its messiest episodes yet Wednesday night, complete with a backdoor plot, a crucial Power of Veto competition, a tea party that turned into a house-wide confrontation, and Jason embracing pure chaos as he fought to stay in the game.
The episode picks up following Kamu’s nomination ceremony, with Mallory, Lyric and LaTrice sitting on the block.
Mallory is frustrated to find herself nominated yet again, while Lyric is especially annoyed after Kamu previously suggested she would be safe. LaTrice is also disappointed, but Jason quickly approaches her and Taylor with his read on the situation.
Jason believes Kamu is setting him up for a backdoor — and he’s absolutely right.
Kamu has already revealed to Lyric that Jason is his real target. He later gives Mallory the same reassurance, telling her that the goal is to get Jason out. What Mallory doesn’t know, however, is that she remains Kamu’s backup target if Jason avoids the block or survives the Block Buster.
After an emotional moment between Mallory and Lyric, both nominees turn their attention toward the Power of Veto.
Elsewhere, with Rome gone and the season’s previous showmance finished, the episode briefly turns its attention toward Barrett and Dee as a possible new romantic storyline, though there doesn’t appear to be much happening there just yet.
Devens Keeps His Power Under Wraps
Devens still holds one of the biggest advantages in the game: the Diamond Power of Veto.
The power gives him the ability to remove someone from the block and personally select the replacement nominee. For now, Devens doesn’t believe he needs to use it because Kamu is targeting Jason.
His bigger concern is keeping people from discovering that he has it.
Devens and Dee continue hiding the truth from Angela. Interestingly, Angela believes Devens may simply be keeping the information from her and Dee as a way of protecting them.
Meanwhile, suspicion begins shifting toward Jason.
Drew warns Kamu that attempting a backdoor could become dangerous if Jason secretly holds the power. Kamu isn’t interested in changing course, though. If Jason has something, Kamu figures forcing him to reveal it is still worthwhile.
With the plan intact, it’s time to select players for the Power of Veto competition.
Kamu, Mallory, Lyric and LaTrice are joined by Haley and Jason, with Jason entering the competition after LaTrice draws Houseguest Choice.
That is exactly what Kamu didn’t want.
Lyric Wins the Power of Veto
This week’s veto competition puts the Houseguests through the dizzy ballerina challenge.
Players compete head-to-head, spinning themselves dizzy before attempting to roll balls into scoring slots. The player with the higher score advances.
Mallory defeats LaTrice in the opening matchup before choosing Jason to compete next. Jason picks Kamu as his opponent, setting up an important showdown between the HOH and his intended backdoor target.
Kamu wins.
Jason is eliminated, leaving him without the easiest route to protecting himself.
Haley then faces Lyric, with Lyric advancing. Mallory follows that by eliminating Kamu, leaving Mallory and Lyric to battle in the final round.
Lyric comes out on top and wins the Power of Veto.
With Lyric expected to save herself, Kamu now has the opening he needs to nominate Jason.
But Jason isn’t planning to quietly wait for the veto ceremony.
Jason Starts Stirring Up the House
Realising his game is in serious danger, Jason begins trying to create cracks within the groups he believes are controlling the house.
First, he approaches Dee and attempts to convince her that she should be worried about Kamu, Chuk and Haley.
Dee immediately recognises what Jason is doing.
Jason then heads to Chuk and delivers almost the opposite warning, arguing that Dee, Devens and Angela are the bigger threats.
Chuk is equally suspicious.
When Dee and Chuk eventually compare notes, Jason’s strategy becomes obvious: he is pitching different threats to different people in hopes that something creates enough distrust to save him.
Things get even worse for Jason when Kamu discovers that Jason apparently made veto promises to several players. Despite telling Kamu he would use the veto according to Kamu’s wishes, Jason had also promised others that he would save them.
Kamu decides it is time to expose everything.
Unfortunately for Jason, he chooses Mallory’s tea party as the setting.
The Tea Party Explodes
Mallory’s plan is simple: host a pleasant tea party for the house.
Kamu has something very different in mind.
After congratulating Lyric on her veto victory, Kamu turns his attention toward Jason and begins publicly laying out his gameplay.
He calls Jason’s strategy messy and reveals the various deals Jason attempted to make during the veto competition.
Jason doesn’t exactly back down.
Instead, he openly admits he is fighting to survive and argues that he is simply playing Big Brother. He also points out what he sees as the larger problem in the house: two powerful groups are positioned to control the game while everyone outside them remains disposable.
Jason argues that those players are effectively setting themselves up to reach jury together.
And while Kamu’s confrontation damages Jason, it may also create problems for Kamu.
Even Dee notices that publicly exposing everything could have consequences for Kamu’s own position.
Jason then finds another opportunity to create uncertainty.
In front of the entire house, he asks Devens directly whether he has the secret power.
Devens denies it.
But Jason has now planted the question in front of everyone.
The tea party may be finished, but Jason certainly isn’t.
Jason Declares Kettle Warfare
Later that night, Jason takes his campaign to an entirely different level.
Armed with a tea kettle and wooden spoon, he begins banging away whenever he catches other Houseguests discussing strategy.
He even sleeps with the kettle nearby before continuing the routine the following morning.
Whenever conversations start looking suspicious, the kettle comes out.
Jason spends the day creating noise, interrupting game talk and repeatedly calling out Kamu.
Kamu claims Jason’s psychological warfare isn’t getting to him.
His reactions suggest otherwise.
It’s ridiculous, chaotic and exactly the kind of behaviour you would expect from someone who knows his Big Brother life could be ending in a matter of days.
Lyric Uses the Veto, Jason Hits the Block
Eventually, it’s time for the Power of Veto ceremony.
As expected, Lyric uses the veto to remove herself from the block.
Kamu then completes his backdoor plan by naming Jason as the replacement nominee — with Jason appropriately sipping tea as his nomination becomes official.
That leaves Jason, Mallory and LaTrice facing Thursday night’s eviction.
But Jason still has one final opportunity to survive.
The Block Buster competition will determine who can escape the block before the live vote, meaning Kamu’s plan is not finished just yet.
After one of the most chaotic episodes of the season, the question now is whether Jason’s tea-fuelled campaign can somehow keep him alive — or whether his time in the Big Brother 28 house is finally about to run out.
