With just weeks until the premiere of Big Brother 28, longtime host Julie Chen Moonves is promising that fans are about to experience one of the franchise’s most ambitious seasons yet.
The new season isn’t just another summer installment—it also marks the series’ historic 1,000th episode, a milestone rarely reached by primetime television shows. According to Chen Moonves, the producers wanted to create a concept that celebrates the show’s legacy while still delivering surprises for longtime viewers and newcomers alike.

Although CBS is keeping the official theme under wraps, Chen Moonves hinted that this year’s twist is designed to appeal to fans of every era of the show.
“I love the concept,” she said, explaining to Tv Insinder that once viewers see the premiere, they’ll understand why she believes it works for audiences of all ages.
Julie Still Wants to Play
After hosting the series for more than two decades, Chen Moonves admitted she’d still love the chance to compete in a few classic Big Brother competitions herself.
She’s particularly interested in trying some of the endurance contests that have become fan favorites over the years, though she’s happy remaining the face of the franchise instead of becoming a HouseGuest.

Moonves also said that she would love to play the game and would want her teenage son to be her ride-or-die in the house. “He is more athletic than me, smarter than me, and funnier than me. As his mom, I would protect him like the biggest mama bear the world has ever seen…or would I? I mean, it is ultimately a game, and everyone is everyone else’s competition! It would be fun to see, that’s for sure. Even for me to face those questions.”
Expect a Bigger Opening Week
Season 28 kicks off on Thursday, July 9, with an extended 90-minute premiere. That celebration continues with another 90-minute episode on Sunday, July 12, giving fans extra time to settle into the game and witness the season’s early twists.
Chen Moonves teased that the second episode is one viewers won’t want to miss, suggesting that something major happens early in the season.
Milestone Season Brings High Expectations
As excitement builds, speculation continues over whether former HouseGuests could be involved. While Chen Moonves didn’t confirm any casting rumors, she acknowledged that fans are eager to see how the landmark season honors the show’s history.
The host also expressed excitement about reaching the 1,000-episode milestone, calling it a remarkable achievement for the franchise and everyone who has helped build it over the years.
Looking Ahead
While production is keeping many details secret, Chen Moonves believes Season 28 will stand out as one of the most memorable chapters in Big Brother history. Between the milestone celebration, an all-new concept, and a premiere packed with surprises, she says fans should prepare for a summer unlike any before.
With the countdown underway, all eyes are on July 9 to finally discover what CBS has been hiding.
