Big Brother fans still remember one of the most infamous blunders in franchise history: during Big Brother 3, Marcellas refused to use the Power of Veto, sealing his own eviction. The moment was so shocking that Julie Chen-Moonves playfully tapped him on the head with her notecard—a moment etched into BB lore. Since then, houseguests have feared making a similar fatal mistake. This week, Zach could be next in line to join that cautionary tale.
Zach’s situation? He chose not to use his secret advantage—the $10,000 bribe power—despite being in danger of eviction. To make matters more surprising, he didn’t even tell anyone about it until Monday. This wasn’t a case of manipulation or misdirection; it was purely his call.

Of course, Zach’s circumstances differ from Marcellas’s. To use his power, he’d have to give $10,000 to someone he’s not exactly on good terms with right now. That’s a steep price—especially if he’s not confident about his long-term chances of winning the $750,000 grand prize. If he’s already a target in week five, he may see the cash as the one guaranteed prize he can take home.
It’s also worth noting that Zach’s power remains valid until jury begins—possibly for up to four more weeks if this season features a seven-person jury. From his perspective, saving it for a later, more desperate moment might make sense.
When talking to Morgan, Zach claimed his choice was about keeping her off the block. That could be partly true, but the move also feels strategic. By revealing this secret to Morgan—something he hasn’t shared with anyone else—he deepens her sense of loyalty to him, especially as she’d been considering voting him out in favor of Vince. It subtly paints their alliance as stronger than her ties to Lauren or Vince.
This tactic could pay off. Morgan is one of Zach’s closest allies, and protecting her might have ensured a voting bloc strong enough to save him. If Vince or Zach wins the BB Block Buster, they could rally support to keep the other. Perhaps Zach believed this would be harder to pull off if Morgan and Vince were on the block together. He might also simply be confident he can beat both Keanu and Vince in the vote count.
So, is Zach’s decision a disaster in the making? Not necessarily. It’s risky—certainly not the safest move—but it’s not without logic. This choice could either be remembered as one of Big Brother’s all-time worst plays… or as the gamble that kept him in the game. The verdict will depend on whether Zach survives eviction this week.
What do you think—did Zach just make a smart gamble or a $10,000 mistake? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
