Big Brother 27: Meet Ava Pearl — Aura Reader From New York

I’m not going to take the easy shot and mock the fact that Big Brother 27 houseguest Ava reads auras and believes it might give her a competitive edge in the Big Brother house. Who knows—maybe aura-reading is real, and she’ll take one look at mine, see that I’m a terrible person, and call me out on it. Fair enough.

What really stood out in her interview, though, was that Ava says she’s a “big fan” of the show—wink wink. The reality is, it’s her brother who’s the real superfan. He’s so into it, he even participates in Big Brother fantasy leagues. (And yes, if you’re reading this, dear brother: it must be slightly soul-crushing to be the one obsessed with the show, only to watch your sister get cast instead. Unless you’re like me and prefer to observe from the sidelines—no application, no stress, just vibes.)

That said, there’s something very likable about Ava: she’s broke. And while she may not love that fact, history has shown (according to my totally scientific theory) that contestants with less financial cushion tend to take the game more seriously. After all, $750,000 is life-changing. The flip side, though, is that sometimes people play just hard enough to make jury and cash in on that $6-8K stipend. It’s not ideal, but not necessarily a dealbreaker either—Cameron played like that at times, and he still gave it his all until the end.

So, yes, I promised not to obsess over her aura-reading skills. There’s a whole season ahead of us for that.
